Use your troubleshooting skills to repair, and overhaul engines, brakes, driveline components, hydraulic systems, and electrical components

Perform preventative maintenance on fire units as per National Fire Protection Association standards

Diagnose equipment using repair manuals, diagnostic software, and other specialized tools

Enter data and repair history into the computerized Fleet Management System (AssetWorks M5)

Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and Fire Services staff to meet client needs

Perform CVIP’s in accordance with Alberta Regulation 414/91; complete required paperwork, authorization forms, and provincial certifications both manually and on the computer

Perform road calls and call outs for emergency repair on equipment including assisting ERD at fire scenes to keep fire apparatus operational

Learn and share what you know; mentor apprentices and semi-skilled helpers and participate in safety and environmental meetings and training programs

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications :
Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate of Proficiency or Interprovincial Red Seal

Minimum 2 years work experience in the trade of Heavy Equipment Technician

Possession of or the ability to obtain an Alberta Class 3 Driver’s License

Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Ability to interpret technical manuals and specifications, and to work alone or as part of a team

Able to understand, communicate in, read and write English at a level needed to meet job-related task and safety requirements

Proven safety record and the ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, floor hoists and diagnostic equipment (electrical, hydraulic), etc.

Knowledge and understanding of occupational health and safety and environmental standards and procedures

Ability to work a variety of shifts on an ongoing basis to support operations

Ability to be licensed by the Province to complete Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP)

Ability to supply required tools prescribed by the current agreement and to meet the physical demands of the position
