About us

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Service Delivery Reform, Coordination and Workplace Safety Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system.

The Senior Manager is responsible for leading and managing the VSSR’s court-based programs, including the Child Witness Service and Intermediary Program, that deliver trauma informed and victim-centric service assistance to victims of crime who are participating in criminal justice processes.

Working closely with the Director, Victim Service Innovation in Criminal Justice and the management team, the Senior Manager will be responsible for planning and ensuring that innovative service delivery is supported by sound business and management practices. The Senior Manager will oversee the implementation of service reforms, support operational excellence and provide strategic advice to executives and colleagues in the VSSR business unit, in line with departmental and government strategy and directions. Additionally, the Senior Manager will identify risks and opportunities for operationalising innovative practice led responses to better meet the needs of victims of crime in Victoria.

The role will contribute to the development and delivery of key service objectives and ensure a coordinated and informed operational and policy response is achieved for victims of crime across the state. The role will be instrumental in improving the lives of victims of crime and their families and providing a platform for equitable participation in the criminal justice process.

About the role

The Senior Manager is required to develop and maintain strong, strategic relationships across key areas of the criminal justice system. This role is well suited to an experienced manager with a track record in strong program management and service delivery and who relishes opportunities to lead teams with diverse and highly specialist skills and experience who are committed to ensure witness’ needs are supported with unwavering professionalism and respect.

About you

As our ideal candidate you will possess:
Demonstrated values driven leadership skills with a commitment to working collaboratively to achieve agreed organisational vision and objectives utilising evidence-based quality approach

Demonstrated strategic and operational experience in a major community or public sector organisation and complex frontline service delivery environments

Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to victims of crime

Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team and promote workplace culture which encourages initiative, innovation and emphasises the value of continuous improvement

Demonstrated ability to organise and adapt to dynamic environments and workload, and to operate effectively under pressure to meet deadlines

Possess a sound appreciation of governance matters, probity and confidentiality requirements

Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and scaling of new initiatives in a complex operational environment

Significant experience in public sector project development cycles, procurement and implementation methods

Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

Demonstrated experience in training and developing your team to enable them to broaden their skill set and advance to greater levels of proficiency
