Workforce Development Adviser – Integrated Adult Social Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Workforce Development Adviser (WDA) to join our Human Resources and Workforce Development (WD) service and provide an effective workforce and professional development service to the Integrated Adult Social Care Service and our partner agencies.

We are looking for an experienced candidate who can make a difference and help shape the organisation. The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and focussed to provide a high-level workforce development service. The Integrated Adult Social Care service and is made up of a diverse range of employees and professionals who are constantly striving to improve the quality and standard of their services and outcomes for services users. WD is an integral part of this process therefore it is desirable that you have experience of supporting business change and developing initiatives to support services and individuals.

The role involves liaising with colleagues across the Integrated Adults and Social Care Service to identify development needs, and to design, develop, commission, and deliver appropriate learning and development programmes. These programmes not only need to meet the needs of Gateshead Council’s workforce but also some of our partner agencies with a specific remit to meet the needs of social workers and social care workers across Adult Social Care.

As part of the role, you will co-ordinate the post qualifying programme of training for social workers, co-ordinate social work student placements, support students during their time in placement as well as supporting the delivery of the Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW), Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) CPD programme. Many of these areas of work will be shared with the WDA for Children’s Services and the ability to work collaboratively is essential. You will support the delivery of the Safeguarding Adults and Community Safety Boards training; therefore, you will require a great deal of flexibility and an ability to work with people of all levels from a variety of public and private sector organisations.

You will also assist in the development of workforce strategies and plans for both the Integrated Adult Social Care service and across the wider Council.

It is essential that you have knowledge and experience of supporting the learning and development of others, as well as facilitation, training & development techniques appropriate to both face to face and virtual delivery. You must also have experience of direct working with adult learners, which needs be underpinned by an understanding of the principles of adult learning.

As you will be working in a small team, the ability to work independently but also as an effective team member is essential. Excellent collaboration, communication, presentation and organisational skills are an important part of the role and should be demonstrated by the successful candidate.
